CODI 2007 / November 7-9, 2007

Hi everybody. Welcome to our CODI 2007 Ning Site!

As the CODI conference chair, I wanted to say thanks for visiting our site! I think this will be a great way for conference attendees to communicate with one another leading up to the conference.

We hope you'll do things like the following:

Let others know what your interests are.
Work with one another to organize dinner groups.
Connect with others wanting to visit local Pittsburgh attractions.
Make friends!

Please let us know what you think of our site.

--Amy Terlaga, CODI 2007 Conference Chair--

Problems sleeping? Chances are that one out of ten people to read this is currently suffering from sleeping problems, but only a tiny fraction of them will consider a natural insomnia treatment. The majority of people will continue to not get the sleep they need until…

Symphony is crap

Our new director agreed to merge our Horizon system into an existing Symphony system. We have been live for a week now, and from what I have seen Symphony is a big step backwards.. Yep, Vista Equity partners definitely maximized their profits by extending the life cycle of the lesser of two products.

Ease of use just doesn't exist in Symphony like it did in Horizon. What only took a click or two in Horizon involves opening and closing several windows. As for closing windows, you have to… Continue

Friday's happenings

Friday I went to several of the SirsiDynix presentations. Here is what I heard, and some discussions between the talks also

  1. API - Good investment : this presentation discussed the use of the API to create apps to safely view and edit data in the database. Using the API would allow editing of data in either the "embedded" oracle, or the full version. What we were also told, was that if we didn't get training for using the API, we would not get documentation for the API, or for…

Day two

Went to the 7.4 enhancements talk, the upgrade looks promising. SD claims to have 350 bug fixes wrapped into this upgrade and even more bug fixes for the HIP upgrade. I haven't had a chance to ask if they have fixed circulation so that the blocks screen shows up before the update patron screen, so that you can see if a borrower has a clean record before you renew their card....

The Symphony upgrade presentation was only informative if you haven't been through a migration…
